Housewives

Why is it that the stereotype of woman always being the housewives exist?
It seems a bit degrading that women are/were apparently not supposed to do anything
else except take care of the children and do all the housework all day, everyday. They were
not even allowed to go out and fulfill their dreams and that's probably why there used to be a
lot of feminist groups out there that would be against all of this. It would sound wrong if a woman
said that she wanted to go out and work or to be a pilot. I mean, there are a lot of successful woman
out there living their dreams and what not and that's the way it should have been ages ago. Although
this stereotype is not as common as it used to be, it probably still exists today.

Fake

Why is it that women/girls are always or most of the time bashed on for wearing too much makeup and
called a "cake face" and fake? But when they don't wear makeup they are called ugly and unattractive?
Today's society is so judgmental and nothing will ever please anyone to the fullest. It's ridiculous. Why say
someone is fake for wearing makeup when you're just going to ridicule someone for not wearing makeup
later on? Everyone should have their own choice to do as they please without feeling judged.

Women and Cars

We've all heard of the stereotype that women can't drive. But if we go into
more depth in this stereotype, we know the stereotype that Asian women in particular
cannot drive or do not drive as well as other people. I believe that most stereotypes only look
and seem true because that is how we are now used to seeing things. We see Asian students as smarter
and then that just makes Asian students live up to that stereotype because that is apparently what is
expected. Same with driving, we keep saying that Asian women are the worst at driving and somehow
that has gotten into all the mental thoughts and the minds of Asian women today.

Movies

It is said that women and men do things for different reasons and one example would be
when a female watches a movie and when a male watches one. For example, let's talk about the
movie that just came out, The Avengers. Men are probably watching this movie just because their
favorite child hood super hero is in the movie or because they used to read the comics back in the day.
But sometimes, we females think differently, we think that they are only watching the movie because one
of the actresses are "hot" or appealing to their eyes. For example, in The Avengers, Scarlett Johansson stars
as one of the female heroine's. We all know she has sexual appeal. I guess we girls should stop thinking that guys are only watching these movies because of the attractive female actresses and we should just know that they're just watching the movie because they actually want to see the movie because it seems entertaining.

Effort

Is it true that women put more effort into the relationship than men? Or vice versa?
This is a frequently asked question, apparently. I guess it really depends on what we
are comparing both genders to and the actual situation. On my defense, I think that women
do put more effort into looking good for her man. And in my opinion I think that men put more
effort into actually making their significant other happy. (Depends, but in most cases that I've seen)
I honestly think that both women and men have an equal part in putting in effort whether it's by
looking nice or actually keeping the relationship together.

Rape and Abuse

Why is it that we hear more about women abuse and rape?
Is it because people automatically think that women are vulnerable?
It probably is, the stereotype that women seem to be weaker than men makes
women look so fragile and powerless. This image and thought is wrong, this is the
kind of stereotype that makes this world even worse than it already is. If it were not
for this stereotype of women, MAYBE just maybe there would be less
of these terrible crimes of rape and abuse. Just because of the saying, "man of the house"
and how the male gender tends to be powerful. Our society really should think before we decide to
come up with these stupid "rules" of how things should ALWAYS be.

Degrading Women

Believe it or not most women are always being degraded by others most of the time. Especially in politics and what not. You barely see any women in the office besides the first lady and some of the other female political figures. Why can't people take women seriously? Some women are actually strong as men mentally and physically also emotionally. This is also a type of discrimination towards women. Why is it that people always say men can do this or that better while women are only good at housework and such. It makes no sense. People are all different whether they are female or male it doesn't matter. We are all individuals and all have different types of skills some better than others. We should not just degrade ONLY women or anyone at all. It's just ridiculous that we say that we are all made equal and treated equally when clearly we are not.

Needy Women

Why are most women thought of as being "needy"? Do people not understand
that maybe women just want to be loved and cared for sometimes? Women need
the attention that they want. I also hear boyfriends saying, "I broke up with my
girlfriend because she was so needy all the time." That seems to be the case for many couples.
How come the female always gets the blame in these kinds of relationships?
Just because the girlfriend wants to spend time with her significant other more than usual
does not mean she's needy. There could be other reasons behind that. We as women are
generalized as "needy" and not independent. We can be independent if we wanted to.
Most women are indeed independent in different categories, what's the point of being in a
relationship if the significant other doesn't want to spend time together? So before someone
goes on about how their partner is being "needy", they should just think about why they are
in a relationship in the first place. They should not even be in one if they don't want to
dedicate their time with them. It's totally stupid.

Appearance

People usually say, "looks don't matter, personality does". Let me just say that that statement is totally false. Honestly the first things someone sees in a person is their appearance. For example, when going to a job interview they would most likely turn down someone who is unclean and messy looking. Our society tends to judge people more on their looks. I'm sure that one time in history no one cares about how one looked and focused on personality. Due to media, we automatically have instant judgement on how someone is supposed to look depending on gender and race and many other factors. This is where stereotypes come into place. This is why women have the need to be pretty and what not so that they can fit the expectations and standards of many men. Self esteem becomes an issue as well.

Expectations

In my opinion women feel the need to fit men's expectations.
We tend to not think for ourselves anymore. What happened to
that "independent woman" alter ego that we all used to think we had?
Just because a man says something negative to a woman or because
a man likes certain types of ladies, we try to fit our character into this
made-up factory built barbie image. Some men want perfect girls and they
have impossible standards that most woman can only achieve by plastic surgery
or something. Honestly, if men want a "perfect" girl, they might as well just go
to a toy store and buy a Barbie instead. This photo shows how much plastic
surgery a woman would have to undergo if she were to fit the "Barbie perfect" expectation.
It really does seem ridiculous when you look at it in this way.

Models/Celebrities and Photoshop

We always see these beautiful celebrities and models on the cover of our favorite magazines.
Girls and women of all ages tend to feel insecure about themselves because they wish that they
could look at least half as great as these celebrities. But the truth is, all of these people are not as perfect
as they really look in these magazine covers. Believe it or not, these celebrities and models have flaws
and imperfections as well, the photographers and editors just edit the photos with massive amounts of
photo shop. I just feel that the media should stop photo shopping these 50 year old women to look
10 years younger. It gives a false look at all of these celebrities and gives normal women like us low
self esteem and does not give us the confidence that we really would like to have.

Media Affecting Female Body Image?

Is the media affecting the body image and self esteem of females? I would have to say, of course it is affecting women of this century. Long time ago people used to see the more over-weight people as wealthy, high class, and beautiful. For example, Marilyn Monroe was not stick skinny but she was seen as a beauty icon! Nowadays it is all about being skinny to the point where you can see a woman's rib cage and spine! On television and magazines we always see the "popular" girls having a small figure where as the "losers" are just average sized or over-weight. We rarely see plus-sized models anymore. Super models these days have to be stick skinny and under 100 pounds most of the time. What the media shows, women will believe and think that is the only way one should look; that being thin is the only definition of beauty. I really do believe that the media is sending out incorrect messages to women these days, and young girls especially will be more vulnerable to these messages. Beauty should be defined in all shapes and sizes.

WOMEN: Oscars 2012

Are women trying too hard to be seen as "sexy" these days? A few days ago at the Oscars 2012,
Angelina Jolie was seen constantly adjusting her dress just to show off her right leg, starting from her thigh.
I feel that lately, women have been pressured to be seen as a sexy. I'm pretty sure that most celebrities would not dress like this or get dolled up when there are no photographers around. I think that women have gone too far trying to please the media by showing off and trying to increase their sex appeal to the public.
